Next Board Meeting (changed from 4th Thursday):

7:00-8:30 PM, Thursday, January 26, 2012
Armstrong Management
6074 Franconia Road
Alexandria, VA 22310

Please welcome our new Armstrong Management representative, Charity Avé Lallemant.

Recycling Bin Update: There will be a mandatory change of the bins by Fairfax County. The new 35 or 65 gallon wheeled carts will replace the current bins, which will be exchanged on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. You can keep the current bins by simply not placing them out on that day. All recyclables will be collected in the new bins. Please see the Newsletter!

There were attempted burglaries in the community recently, thwarted by the homeowner and a neighbor. See the Neighborhood Watch Newsletter here.

February's Special Association Meeting to modify the By-Laws to expand the Board from 3 to 5 resulted in passage of the proposal. Two new Board members have been appointed (whose terms go until this year's Annual Association Meeting.) Congratulations to Sandye Blalock and Rick Cooper, and our thanks for agreeing to serve the community.

With the arrival of warmer weather, street parking has once again become an issue. Residents are reminded that Visitor parking areas are for guests and visitors only, not residents. Open parking lanes are also not for extended or continuous use. The GGHOA Parking rules are available here.

The Burgundy Woods development is under construction. Two residents met with Tom Davis from JC Engineering on Saturday, 18 Sep. The notes are listed here for that meeting, the 1 Nov 10 and the 23 Dec 10 status updates. The latest schedule from JCE is here.

After several weeks of discussions, brainstorming and integrating ideas from Board Members, Committee Members and residents, the LARC guidelines have had a long-overdue update. The new guidelines can be downloaded here.

This past winter, we had a more normal (moderate) snowfall, and the lessons we applied in soliciting the current snow contract worked fairly well. However, we still need to modify elements for the future, including sand barrels and post-snow sand removal from the streets.

Many residents still have low water pressure in their units. The problem was earlier thought to stem from crimped water lines from the original construction. However, later information indicates the problem results from the distribution from Fairfax County and a poor build plan by the developer. In response to a letter from the GGHOA President, Fairfax County has responded. The bottom line is that individual residents who want to have increased pressure must install water pressure boosters at their own cost. A few of us have bought units online and had a plumber to install them for a total cost of about $1300 (which is half the estimate 3 local plumbers quoted over the past 4 years.) The background information under Items of Interest has been updated to reflect the latest information.
